Chicago-Style Keto-Friendly Hot Dog Bun (AKA The Naperville Style Dog)

By: NOB Test Kitchen

A traditional Chicago dog can weigh in at 37 net carbs, but with a Keto-Friendly bun and some ingenuity, we’ve created a dog that definitely belongs in Chicagoland while managing to be low carb. We created a low carb relish to use on this, using dill relish and a replacement sweetener of your choice, but in a pinch you can omit the relish altogether.

Ingredients

  • 1 NOB Keto-Friendly Hot Dog Bun (feel free to steam the bun between 1 and 3 minutes) (1 net carb)
  • 1 All beef hot dog, prepared in your style of choice (1 net carbs)
  • Yellow mustard (0 net carbs)
  • Low carb relish: 2 Tbsp. dill relish with 3/4 tsp Swerve (0 net carbs)
  • 1 Tbsp. White onion diced, 15.43g =1 net carb (about 0.5 net carb for 1 Tbsp.) *
  • 2 Thin Roma tomato slices, 24.81 g = 1 net carb (about 0.5 net carb for 2 slices (12.5g))**
  • 1 Dill pickle spear (1 net carbs)
  • 2 Sport peppers (0 net carbs)
  • Dash of celery salt (0 net carbs)

Directions

  1. Prepare the low carb relish with the ratio of 2 Tbsp. dill relish mixed with ¾ tsp of Swerve (you might want to adjust a bit if you’re using a different sweetener)
  2. Assemble the Chicago style hot dog: start with the NOB Keto-Friendly bun, add the hot dog, top with mustard, 1 -2 Tbsp. low carb relish, 1 Tbsp. diced onions, 2 tomato slices, 1 dill pickle spear, 2 sport peppers, and dust with celery salt.

Please note that net carb counts can vary based on the product you select, and the amount used in assembly.
